Greetings Live + Breathe family and friends! March has been in full swing with classes, events and special projects to provide yoga to a number of deserving populations throughout Southern California. We continue to teach the skills and tools gained through yoga to allow for a positive life experience on and off the mat!
A new partnership for Live + Breathe is with Catholic Charities. We lead two classes a month as part of their standing acculturation program. We kicked off the month of March with a yoga class in the park for refugees and immigrants, led by our instructor, Kate Jarosinska. The outdoor class was joined by case workers, translators and individuals assimilating into the culture. Kate guided the students through a Kundalini based yoga set, along with breath work to increase focus and discharge negative emotions. Under the sun, trees and drifting clouds, the entire class found a way to rest and re-charge. Students enjoyed their experience, commenting after class, “I feel so much more relaxed and the energy is now circulating through my whole body.”
Mark your calendars for March 29th! We have our second event combining a yoga class and a beer social, made possible by Rusti Gilbert. As the general manager of The Cork and Craft and a Live + Breathe volunteer instructor, she will expertly lead a Vinyasa flow class that is followed by a beer social. This time around, there have been rumors of wine as well! Our studio partner, Riffs, will be making the live music possible along with giveaway items (www.riffsstudios.com). Donations and used mats are appreciated for the ability to hold free class to those without access. This will be an excellent space to soak up Sunday yoga at it’s finest. Yoga starts at 1 pm and the restaurant will open its doors at 3 pm, so stick around for a bite afterwards! Location is listed below. Sign-up on Facebook here.

An initiative has just been launched by Sara Tumey, our yoga instructor based in San Fransisco. She leads video yoga segments on our YouTube channel with the intention of greater, overall access to yoga. This is best utilized in some of the areas that we currently work within, such as at-risk youth, refugees and immigrants. Many students are now able to expand their own practice outside of our classes. The videos are a wonderful tool for anyone who would like to gain more knowledge about yoga! Check out a sample and watch the pose of the month here.

We have an opportunity at the end of March to further provide yoga resources to the youth of San Diego. March 27th, Live + Breathe will have information and materials at a Safety & Wellness Fair held by San Diego Youth Services. 80-100 youth from area shelters, group homes and schools will be attending this special event. We will be holding a brief yoga class to close the session and incorporate simple techniques to bring a bit of peaceful awareness into their lives.
As always, we extend an invite for you to join us! Volunteer, teach, donate, provide mats and materials for class or simply send us an idea on how you would like to help (email@example.com). An inspiration and commonality throughout each aspect of Live + Breathe is best stated by Minor Myers Jr. “Go into the world and do well. But more importantly, go into the world and do good.”
Thank you to all of our current volunteers and contributors. You continue to keep this cause alive and well!
